Give an outline of the views on what caused the UK riots presented in texts 1 and 2.
In text 1 they blame the youth for not having enough to do. The Geography Professor Chris Hammett tells that they only riots for fun and profit. He also mentions that there are some people who just want to get a slice of the action. Meanly it is the youth’s who gets criticized for using their energy on negative things even though there are still some young people who are trying to do something positive trough a group. One of the members in the group means that the youth’s anger is due to the lack of job opportunities and cuts in government funding to youth services and suggests the government to listen to these young people. British Prime Minister David Cameron means that the mean reason for these riots is the gangs. He says that the country have a big problem with the gangs specially, because they are completely disrespectful.
Text 2 focuses more on the unemployment’s, the police and social dysfunction. It points out that the police are the reason for the much wider social dysfunction. The street level people are not surprised by these events they knew it will happen it was just a matter of time. The poor police relations course a young black’s death. The younger’s feel overlooked, because the government doesn’t help them. One can obviously figure out that the author blames the government for all the problems. It is quoted on page 5 line 3 “Go to the youth centre and you will find staff have locked them self up in the office because disturbed young men are dominating the space with their violent dogs”.
