You can see that it is them right away. When you know a few things about them you can spot a Amish-house passing it in a car.

There is no electricity cables connected to the buildings. In the garden there will be a line with their black/white dressings hanging to dry. In the yard in front of the house the family's carriage stands. By the central-house, there will bee a smaller house to the grandparents. The Amish people is a minority in the states. They are known as very religious, and old-fashioned. The Amish people are immigrates from Europe, mostly the Netherlands.

When the first came to America, the was not so different to the rest of the white Americans. They were more religious, but they did not “look” different. The first time everything was low-tech, so their today's avoidance of technology, was not so obvious back then. As the world developed, the Amish did not follow. Today the still use carriages to come around, and in their houses there is no use of electricity. They does not think that technology is evil. The just believe in gods nature and the naturally powers handled over by god. The Amish is a farming-society. The believe that it is there job to take care of the earth of god. The consider themselves as pilgrims for god. Doing a good job here will be rewarded later.
