The statue of Liberty (French: Statue de la Liberté) is a statue in the harbor of New York, which welcomes travelers arriving by ship. The statue was a gift from France. It’s made by the France sculptor: Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi.
The idea is born
The bond between the USA and France got strengthened when the Frenchmen joined the Americans in the fight against Britain.
About 100 years later, in 1865, a dinner party hold place in France, where Frédéric Bartholdi was invited. During the dinner an admiringly talk about America and their success with democratic. They talked about the feeling of freedom USA and France shared. The talk triggered an idea of giving a monument from France to America, to show how much they shared the same feelings about freedom and no slavery with America. Bartholdi thought it as a good idea. Few years later he decided to make the dream real. He wrote this to Laboulaye, which recommended him to take a trip to the USA and find out what the Americans would think about this. On June 8 1871 did Bartholdi leave to New York. Already before he arrived he had found the place, where the monument should stand, on Bedloe’s island (Now called Ellis Island) right outside the harbor of New York, which Bartholdi felt in love with the first second he saw it.
