The movie – Goodbye Bafana – was published in 2007, and the film is based on true story.

A summary

It takes place in South Africa, where we follow a small family. The main character is named James Gregory, and he lives with his wife and his two children. James and his family have to move to Rodden Island, where there is a prison. James is a trained prison guard, and he gets a job in the prison on Rodden Island. His family loves their life on Rodden Island, and his wife starts a friendship with his chef’s wife. Just when everything seems like it won’t get any better, James gets a new job in the prison. He is going to guard Nelson Mandela – a very famous prisoner. In time, James gets to know Nelson, more than any other prison guard. One day, Nelson asks James to give his wife some chocolate – as a Christmas gift. Later James chef finds out, that James gave the chocolate to Mrs. Mandela, and everyone starts to call James and his family nicknames like “Kaffer-lover”. James also decided to read the banned paper “Freedom Declaration”. The Chef gives James a punishment – more night watchman. James and his wife get dissatisfied with the school-system on Rodden Island, and decide to move. James gets another job.
