Rhetorisk analyse af Obamas sejrstale 'Four more years'

When one looks at the numbers and figures of the 2012 presidential election in America, one might wonder: What exactly was it that made Obama win? He barely even speaks of his politics during speeches.

One of many theories would be his incredible way of giving a speech. His, presumably, incredible way of convincing people to do something about American politics. His way of speaking exactly like this.

In this analysis of an excerpt of the victory speech, I'll look at some of the things that really sets Obama apart from the majority of other speakers. I'll not only look at how he forms his sentences, but also at what he's saying.

I would also like to apologize, in advance, for using terms such as “we” and “us” liberally. I've found them to be appropriate, since Obama is so good at making “us” feel like “we're” part of something bigger, a nation, or something else utterly American.

In the very beginning of Obama's speech, Obama tells us, the readers or viewers, that we are the reason our union moves forward.

Specifically, he tells us that “It moves forward because of you. It moves forward because you reaffirmed the spirit that has triumphed over war and depression, the spirit that has lifted this country from the depths of despair to the great heights of hope[..]”
