To be raped are getting more and more usual in our weekday. Almost after every weekend, we can hear in the news or read about a girl who’s been raped in the weekend on her way home from a party. We are always talking about the victim, how her future is ruined after this terrible accident and how she never could forget it. But what about the offender? His family are left with a big shame and no understanding of what had happened.
The most obvious themes in the short story are all related to the problems a grown up child and a parent has in their relationship, when the child commits a crime. Is it possible for the parent to forgive the child, irrespective what the child has done? Another theme could be to forget the past and move on. To forget the bad things that happened and start over “on a fresh” and make the most out of the day you could. Enjoy the rest of the time you have together. To pass on experiences and teach one’s child the best that you ever has learned by yourself. But what if you didn’t have any good experiences from your childhood? Would you be able to pass on good advises as a parent. A third theme could be religion. Could God help you to get over such a big shame as a parent? And if your child had seen you been beaten by your husband, is it your fault that your son also does something criminal because of what he experienced in his childhood?
