One of the main themes of the story is forgiveness, as Myrna throughout the story tries to forgive Kenny for what he had done in the past. When she realises that she can not forgive Kenny she blames god by saying that it was his will. In that way no one can blame Kenny for what he did, but everybody cane blame god, and it is easier to forgive god for something bad. This makes religion another important theme in the story, as it describes why many people turn to god for help. A pain or a burden often becomes easier to live with, if you can believe that there is a bigger idea or plan with everything. You can live your life as you use to, as long as you know that god has everything under control, and knows were to guide you afterwards. A third theme is about confronting and solving the problems of life. Myrna does not tackle her feelings from the very beginning but hides them away because she is embarrassed, and wanted them to be forgotten. But this method backfired, as the problem grew and got to big for her to handle. This results in her fleeing once again, which only will result in a even bigger problem.
