To Muhammad(the prophet). The Christian people often say that Islam has some inhuman rules “the Islamic law sharia” and they criticise the religion by saying that it is “a wrong religion”. Many of them who live in Muslim countries have to fallow the law and be good Muslims. And then you think…What has a Muslim have to do to be a “good” Muslim? A good Muslim has 5 duties;
1) “shahadah; profession of faith. 2) Salat; ritual prayer five times each day. 3) Zakat; Islamic tax. 4) Saw; fasting during Ramadan. 5) Hajj that means pilgrimage to Mecca at least once during life.
Some people think that you can change a Muslim’s way of thinking if he/she move to another democratic country. “My Son The Fanatic” deals with religion problems. A family has left Pakistan because it did not like the life in Pakistan and the rules for the Muslims and is now living a normal life in England…. or what?
- Well it starts with their son; Ali. He prays all the time and the father is having a hard time accepting this. Ali has always been a good boy, polite and then one day the father notice a change. Ali starts removing his belongings from his room, his TV, video etc. The story takes place in England and is written by Hanif Kureishi. Parvez(the father) is a Muslim taxi driver and wants the best for his son; to give him a good education and a good home. He is worried about Ali and is fearing that Ali is becoming a fanatic. Parvez on the other hand drinks alcohol, does not pray and eats pig meat, all these are against the religion; Islam.
