Philippe Petit known as the man who in 1974 balanced on a secure steel wire between the two giant towers of the World Trade Center in New York. It is obviously a unique, incredible and remarkable dream of his. He simply balanced back and forth on a wire, then taking it down when completing the exercise. Throughout this essay I will explain what made him famous and I will describe and discuss Philippe Petit’s philosophy regarding his job.
Some people set out to become singers or actors and gain big fame. But unlike any other pursuit of happiness Philippe Petit’s dream was simple, as simple as just walking on a steel wire from one tower to the other. He was at the age of 17 when he read a magazine at the dentist. He read the article about the twin towers in New York and that they would become the largest buildings in the world. He didn’t want anything else than to just walk across; the only thing holding him back was that the towers weren’t built yet. The construction of the towers could take years, so in the mean while he would be self-training. To practice before the big day he trained in his home country, France. He trained with his friends on wires they set up themselves, at different heights and lengths. Years later he then decided he would take it to the next level, by setting up a wire between the towers of the Notre dame building. Imagine driving past the Notre dame every time you had to go to work. When suddenly your daily view of the building turns to something extraordinary. Seeing a man walk between the buildings has never been done, therefore it is so special for others than just him.Just one millimeter could be the end of one’s life, therefore he said it is important to stay focused and concentrated. However according to Philippe Petit if one dies in this situation, it will be a beautiful death, because then you will die whilst you were exercising your passion.He then travelled to Australia and discovered the Sydney Bridge. It did not take him long before he realized his next mission was to set up a wire across the bridge. Yet again another extraordinary sight for drive passers.The twin towers were built, but still under construction which meant that he could sneak up to the top floor, with all their equipment. However they were about to be caught, as there was a guard on duty. They hid underneath a sheet. Philippe thought his dream had ended there. A few days past models of the roof tops were made, to the very detail. They needed it in order to find the right angles for the wire to go straight across. He managed to step foot on the wire yet another breath taking moment, one in a life time experience. Even though he had gotten arrested for breaking and entering je had still accomplished a dream many may not even have thought about. People were flabbergasted on the fact that there actually was a man floating up in mid-air. He had a very ambitious pursue, he managed to fulfill. Anyone can fulfill their dream, if they work hard for it. What he did was incredibly brave, and must have changed some people’s way of living. Living life on the edge of life.Every person on earth has a dream. Dreams must be followed in my opinion, because without dreaming there is no hope and without hope, the world is not worth living. He truly is an inspiration to all human beings.
