- I chose this topic because Nelson Mandela was a very important man in South African history, and he changed a lot for the black people. He’s a very respected man and I think he has an inspirering life history.

Background

-Who is he:

Nelson Mandela is the person who has ensured that black people has the same rights as anyone ells today.

He is a black man, that fought long against apartheid, and Because of that, he was sent to prison for over 27 years. He did a lot of changes in his country, and he was also elected as the first black president in South Africa. Mandela still lives today, at an age of 94 years old.

-Early years:

He lived as child I the town called Tembu. Nelson and his family were Christians, and still are. Because of that he went to a Christian school when he was a little boy.

When nelson turned 9 years old he’s father died. That was a big lost for him, because he’s father was a big role model to him.

Apartheid

-Fight against apartheid

From 1948 until 1994 apartheid was made law in South Africa. Apartheid was a law that separated the black and colored people from the white. There were separate schools, buses, hospitals, and the black people were the underdogs of the country, even though it actually was their country in the first place. Mandela fought long and hard against the apartheid. In a protest he publicly burned his pass, which was something all black men had to wear at this time, and they couldn’t leave their district without it. Because of that he was arrested for five years
