The Mandela family belongs to the Thembu tribe, they came from the south-east South Africa. In 1912 African National Congress (ANC), there was a political party for the Black people, the parties first president was Reverend John Dube. Rolihlahla Mandela was born the 18 July 1918, and not longer after his born, his dad protested against the local White magistrate. Henry Mandela lost his title and his fortune, so the family and he should move to another village, with the name Qunu. Nelsons mother was became a Christian and had been given the Christian name Fanny.
Schooldays
When Rolihlahla was 7 year old, he became the first in his family to start in school, his teacher Mrs Mdingane should give Rolihlahla an English name, and she called him Nelson after the English admiral Lord Nelson. When Nelson was 9 years old his dad died of lung illness. After his father’s dead his mother took him to the Great Place, where the king of the Thembu people lived. The last Nelsons mother said to Nelson before she leaved him was “Be strong, my boy”. Nelson was now adopted of the King. The history book began at 1652, when Jan van Riebeeck from Netherlands settled at Cape Town, because no one in South Africa before had considered writing their history down in books.
