African Americans in Obama's America

1. I have read three articles about the African American race’s situation today. They were written by the columnist Yolanda Young, Eric Holder the Attorney General of the United States and the columnist Walter Backstrom. In all of the three articles the authors introduce us to their personal point of view about the situation of the African Americans in “Obama’s America” today.

In the first article from the 14th of August 2009, written by the black woman Yolanda Young, Mrs. Young tells us about how she became visible for the white citizens after the election of Barack Obama, on account of her appearance, because she looks like the president’s wife Michelle Obama. But the comparison with Michelle Obama isn’t the most important thing for Mrs. Young. Even though she doesn’t look like a celebrity, the most important thing for her is to maintain a positive self-image.

I also read about an experiment conducted by psychologists on black children, where the children had to choose between a black and a white doll; the majority chose the white one, even after the repeating the experiment after the election of Barack Obama. Eric Holder believes that it’s time for us to progress to the stage where all the Americans feel comfortable with each other, white as well as black Americans. He thinks that the races have to appreciate each other and build a future where all of their people are valued.Walter Backstrom believes that racism still exists nowadays, that the black and white people are divided and that the black people don’t have the same equal rights as the whites yet.
