Jimi Hendrix was born Johnny Allen Hendrix in 1942 and was an American musician, singer and an excellent songwriter. He was inspired by the American rock and roll and electric blues. He started out by getting success in Europe with the Jimi Hendrix Experience and achieved fame in USA after he performed at Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. Two years later he went to the Woodstock Festival and then the Isle of Wight Festival one year later. Same year he died of asphyxia because of his drug addiction.
Amplifiers and effects
Hendrix liked to play on amplifiers with a lot of overdrive and gain. He also helped to popularize the wah-wah pedal in mainstream rock and he pioneered with the stereo phasing effect in rock music recordings.
Hall of fame
He got to the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. The magazine Rolling Stone rated him as the greatest guitarist and the sixth greatest artist.
