Film review: Death Race

The film I have chosen to review is Death Race. The film is about a prison which is on an island, that isn’t owned by the government. The owner of the prison is a woman named Hennessey, who has made a TV series of a game in prison, they have called Death Race. Death Race is a game where it’s about winning the race and surviving. There are 8 drivers, who all have a so called “team” that helps them build their car, and tells them what to do, to get the opponents killed. It’s a brutal game, where there are many traps. People activate the traps by driving over them with their car. A trap can activate their guns on the car.The main character is Jason Statham, who is a very famous actor in action movies. In Death Race, Jason Statham is known as Jensen Ames. Jensen Ames is a happy father, and has a lovely wife. He comes home after a hard day at work, and says hi to the family. After a while he goes upstairs. A moment later he calls to his wife to ask her a question. When she doesn’t answer he gets worried and goes downstairs. He suddenly sees her lying dead on the ground with blood pouring from a stab wound. Jensen then gets attacked from behind, by a masked man. The next thing he remembers is that he’s lying on the ground with a knife covered in his wife’s blood and the police are next to him. He gets charged for murder and is sent to the prison.An excellent driver for the Death Race is a masked guy called Frankenstein, who is known for having survived in Death Race. The prison wants Jensen Ames, to be the new Frankenstein since the previous one died. After a charge of lifetime in prison, Ames is allowed to win his freedom, if he can win 3 more games as Frankenstein.He survives the two first games. When it’s the day of the third race, Ames starts becoming friends with another racer called Joe, also known as “Machine Gun Joe”. Ames has been the target for attempted murder in prison, but survived. So on the third day, the leader of the Death Race, placed a bomb under Ames car, to replace Frankenstein with another man behind the mask.In the race Joe and Ames see a weak wall, and use their weapons to shoot it down, and managed to escape from prison. The prison guards became furious and sent helicopters and tanks after them.What I think: I think it is one of the most exciting films I’ve ever seen. There isn’t a dull moment in this action packed film. The film has been expensive to produce, and has done some very clever stunt scenes.Jason Statham is a hero in my point of view, he is a first class actor.
