Remember the Titans: film summary and review

‘Remember The Titans’ is a film based on a true story of an African American football coach played by Denzel Washington. The film takes place in Virginia, USA in the 1970’s where racial segregation were common. One black and one white high school are closing and the students are sent to T.C. Williams High School to integrate. Denzel Washington plays the new coach Herman Boone at T.C. Williams High School. He has to replace the former successful coach Bill Yoast. The football team, The Titans has always had a tradition of winning but the white players have a problem playing for the new black coach. The black community gathers on Herman Boone to support him.Bill Yoast, who is now assistant coach, decides to stay because he doesn`t want the white players to quit the team.Boone sends the team on a training camp in order to build some bonds between the two races. Not everyone is willing to trust and respect one another, but Boone forces them to get to know each other. The white players are still not willing to play because of the black coach and the black players. Boone punishes the whole team with tough training and he gives a speech about how to respect each other, and how to play as a team despite the colour of their skin. When the team returns from the camp, they have learned to respect each other and against all odds, The Titans wins the season title almost undefeated.
