The book is about the young boy, Huckleberry. He is adopted by the widow Douglas. He also lives together with the widows’ sister, Miss Watson.
Suddenly he gets kidnapped by his father, Pap Finn, who is a very evil man. Luckily Huckleberry escapes from his father. While hiding Huckleberry meets Jim, Miss Watson’s slave. Jim has run away from them, because Miss Watson is planning to sell him. Huck visits a nearby town, where he finds out that the people in his town believe that he is dead and they think the murderers are either his father or Jim. Therefore they are hunting his father and Jim.
Huck and Jim decide to flee down the river on a raft to Cairo, where they will be able to get to the free states.
Unfortunately, Huckleberry and Jim overlook Cairo, and they come to the slave states. Suddenly they meet two frauds, who join them on the raft. One of them is thirty years old and is called Duke. The other, who is about seventy years, is called Earl, who says he is a king!
A lot of things happen to Jim and Huck together with Duke and Earl. For example the two frauds impersonate as the two brothers of a man called Peter Wilks, a recently deceased man. With an English accent they manage to convince most of the people in the town, that they are Peter’s brother!
