Give an outline of the different positions on the smoking ban, which are presented in the text.

The first text, by Robin McKie is showing the positive sides of the ban. As we already can see in the title of the text “Benefits of the smoke ban will be felt at once” The text presents a lot of examples on how the smoking ban in Britain and in other countries has improved smokers health. The text also shows us how benefiting the ban is for non-smokers too as well as smokers. Robin McKie only uses his scientific documentation his facts and numbers on how this is better for people. Therefor it would be very hard to argue with him on this.

Text 2 by A.N.Wilson is mostly negative about the ban. He thinks that the ban will have a negative impact on British literature. He uses the fact that a lot of great English poets and novelist used to smoke while they wrote some of the worlds most famous books. He claims in a way that smoking makes you creative, and he wonder if this is the end of literature.

Text 3 by Simon Jenkins is very negative about the ban, even though he states that he dislikes smoking. He says he has no problem avoiding the things he doesn’t like, like smoking. He also points out that smoking is not the only thing that kills people but there are a lot of other things, and that the government shouldn’t take a decision like this without asking the people.
