He stood outside looking in. He wondered what it would be like living in this new place. No matter what, he knew he would miss his parents in the course of the next year, but he was also excited about the prospects of living somewhere different. He was a little nervous as he rang the doorbell. He peeked around anxiously, examining the house. His hands intertwined with each other repeatedly as he fidgeted with them. A small sigh of what was probably disappointment didn't hesitate. Although he knew that he shouldn't judge a book by its cover, he felt discouraged. Coming to a foreign place that he had never been before all by himself felt challenging, but also like the best way for him to develop. Without too much prejudice, he prepares himself with an open mind. A sudden gush of dread penetrates him, as he hears a groan at the hinges of the door, almost like fingernails on a dusty chalkboard. The door was made of different renaissance style patterns, something that probably was comforting to old people. He quickly moved into a military-like position, looking as presentable as he could, with a gracious expression. Slightly below average height, stood an old woman before him, between what was supposed to look like ancient pillars, but was really just poor design. “You must be Ed! I am so happy to have you!” What had been dread was now a warm, comforting inclination. "Hello! I'm so excited to meet you," he said, imitating a poor American accent. "My name is Elisabeth, but for you, it’s just Beth. Please, let me show you around Ed" her kind words quickly filled him with a thrill that he wasn't familiar with at home. Beth did most of the talking during the short tour around the home. Ed was fatigued though, and all he thought was to settle down in a room of his own.
