What would you do, if the person you love didn’t give you enough attention? A few people would do anything to get attention, for example reality stars. But thanks god the most of us is blessed with family and friends. In the novel ‘Vernissage’ from 2008 by Claire Anderson-Wheeler, we get to meet a less fortunate family.
The story is about a boy named Alex. Who one day was picked up at school by his mother and where they drove home together. On their ride home they talk about things such as school, shopping and the vernissage. Alex asked about the new dress, that his mother Frances bought and finds out that the dress is for the vernissage, that the mother and the father is attending. When they arrived home, Alex’s mother make a banana sandwich to him as usual. While eating the sandwich, Alex asks a few questions about whom his mother is going to talk to and what she will talk about, since his father probably is going to be busy talk with the gallery owner. Later on the day Alex hides under his parent’s bed, because he’s scary that his mother is going make him do his homework, which he doesn’t want to do. So that’s why he choose to hide himself under the bed and it was going quite good, until his mother walk into the bedroom, where Alex was hiding. While he still was hiding under the bed, Alex witnessed a conversation between his mother and father. He was made aware that their relationship was as good at he thought it was. When he finally crawled out from under the bed, he made his way to the bathroom, where he brushed his teeth.
