Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is a fantasy novel written by J.K. Rowling. It is about a boy who finds out that he is a wizard and that he belongs to a magical world. Even though Harry Potter is the protagonist of the novel, my main focus in this analysis is Hermione Granger. She is a very important character who shows that being smart and working hard can be just as important as being brave. In this essay, il will analyse Hermione as a character, the setting of the story, and the ending. It also explains why the novel is fantasy fiction.
Already at the beginning of the novel, Hermione is shown as a very smart and serious character. She knows many spells and always follows the rules. She wants to know everything and do everything correctly.
Hermione knows many spells before school even starts, and she always raises her hand in class. She corrects other students and reminds them of the rules. Because of this, Ron gets annoyed with her and says, “She’s a nightmare, honestly.” (page 186, line 18). This shows that Hermione does not fit in very well at first and struggles to make friends. She is also treated badly by Draco Malfoy, who calls her a “Mudblood.” This is a rude word used about witches and wizards with non magical parents. Hermione is muggle born, which means that both her parents are not magical.
