The Globe Theatre: Historie og Shakespeare

Hi I’m your guide Susie, and I’m going to tell you about the history of the Globe.

The Globe theatre was an Elizabethan theatre, originally founded by an acting group called the lord chamberlain’s men, in 1594 and later owned by James Burbage. The Globe was built in 1599, in London. The Globe was one of the four major theatres in that times area. The other three were the Rose, the swan and the Hope. Globe Theatre has been, linked with William Shakespeare through 400 years, several of Shakespears plays were first staged there he even owned 12.5 % of the Globe shares.

The Lord Chamberlain's Men whom founded the Globe was whom Shakespeare wrote for most of his career, his most famous plays he wrote for the Globe was Julius Caesar which also was the first known William Shakespeare play performed at the Globe Theatre, the other play Hamlet, king Lear and many more.

The Globe was built as a large, round, open-air theatre. There was a roof around the perimeter, which covered the seating area, leaving the theatre looking like a doughnut from above. And because the globe had no electricity all the plays were performed during the day.
