We don’t know much about Shakespeare’s life. He comes from the little provincial town Stratford that lies near Avon. The farther was a workman and he was a member of the town council; for three years he also was a mayor. Shakespeare probably went to Ford Grammar School, which can still be seen in the town, but we don’t know much what he learned in school.
In 1582 when he was 18 years old, he married Ann Hathaway who was 7-8 years older; she was the eldest daughter of a wealthy farmer. Their first child was born the year after, only six months after the wedding, later they also had twins. There are several explanations why Shakespeare went to London but most explanations are anecdotes from later time. Some researchers think that he became a member of a theatre company that was on visit to Stratford.
The first time we hear about him again is in 1592 and on that time he is a famous person in London. Most of all he is known as an actor and as a play wrighter but he was also the owner of the Globe Theatre.
Shakespeare wrote 37 plays: comedies, tragedies and historical dramas. His plays have got something for every taste. There is exciting act, strong emotions, colours and comedy. Shakespeare’s theme is love, nature, power and the responsibility of it. The central theme is the man and especially after 1600 you fell the bitterness against the mankind.
