The Lost Bag at the Beach

Chris checked what else was in the bag. He found a small purse. He opened it the purse, and found a small picture of 2 children, a drivers’ license and 400 dollars. Those children were probably the older couple’s grandchildren. The drivers’ license had a name on it. It said “Marilyn DeGraw”. Wait! DeGraw was the last name of an old friend Chris used to take surfing lessons with at this exact beach.

Chris searched his phone for contacts, trying to find his old friend. The number was still on his phone. Chris decided to send his old friend a text. “Hey there DeGraw. Chris here. I found a plastic bag at the beach with belongings in it. I found a drivers’ license. The owner had the same last name as you. Do you think you know who the owner is?”Chris put his phone back in his pocket. A beach ball suddenly hit him in the head. “Oh, I’m sorry!” A younger boy yelled. Chris didn’t say anything, as he received a text message on his phone. It was from DeGraw. Jason DeGraw, to be exact.

“Hey Chris. I think I might know who the owner is. Can you possibly meet in town? Bring the plastic bag!”Of course, he could. Chris hurried to the bus stop. The next bus would be there in 5 minutes. Chris looked at the picture of the grandchildren again. One of the children looked very much like Jason DeGraw, as a child.“This belongs to my step grandmother!” Jason said when he saw the belongings. “I’ve been trying to call her all day. She doesn’t answer her phone. Neither does my granddad. I am a bit worried” he said.“I’m sure there’s nothing to be worried about” Chris said. “They probably also lost their phones at the beach. Let’s go to their house, to see if they headed home.”“Yeah, let’s do that” Jason said.When they arrived to the grandparents’ house, nobody seemed to be home. Jason got even more worried. They had to go to the local police office to ask if the grandparents had been there to ask for the lost plastic bag. Neither had the police office seen the grandparents that day. It became quite a mystery. The boys sat down on the roadside to think. Jason didn’t feel good about the situation at all. They were about to give up.Suddenly Jason’s phone rang. It was his mother telling him to come home as soon as he could. Chris went home with Jason to see what was happening.
