Michael Joseph Jackson was born in 1958 in Gary, Indiana, to an African-American working-class family. His father was an ex-guitarist and he quickly recognized his children’s talents. Especially Michael’s who joined the family’s other performers Tito, Jermaine and Jackie at the age of just five and later they were also joined by older brother Marlon becoming the Jackson 5. At first they only did local gigs but that eventually evolved into being an opening act for several known artists. Many of said artists were signed to the record label Motown who in 1969 signed the Jackson 5 recognizing their talent. It was then the group and Michael as a solo artist started to experience some real success.

Solo Stardom:

At the age of 13, Michael launched a solo career in addition to his work with the Jackson 5. He made the charts in 1971 with "Got to Be There," from the album of the same name. For several years, Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 maintained a busy tour and recording schedule. Despite Jackson's individual achievements and the group's great success, there was trouble behind the scenes, so in 1976 the group severed ties with Motown. It was at this time Michael became more famous for his solo work rather than him being part of the Jackson 5. In 1979 Michael wowed the music world with his new solo album ‘’Off the Wall’’ receiving an overwhelmingly positive response. But it was in 1982 that most of the world would be able to recognize his songs being played on the radio. At the release of the best selling album in history featuring seven top 10 hits ‘’Thriller’’. One of those hits was ‘’Beat it’’, which is my favorite Michael Jackson song. However despite all of this success after his follow-up album ‘’Bad’’ he and his albums started to decline in popularity. I believe that this isn’t just people not liking him anymore, but more him being affected negatively by the fame and therefore losing inspiration and interest in being the superstar we all know him as.
