In a speech from 2014 Emma Watson said ’’ I am reaching out to you because I need your help. We want to end gender inequality—and to do that we need everyone to be involved.’’ And she almost did. This speech has reached almost the entire world due to the fact that the topic is such a valid one these days. Most of all because she is a celebrity and men endorse and respect her. Emma Watson is exactly the right person for this speech mostly because she, as I already mentioned, is dearly respected by both men and women, but also because she understands to see things from a different perspective. Emma Watson didn’t only fight for feminism, she also fought men’s rights as well when she said; ‘’ Men—I would like to take this opportunity to extend your formal invitation. Gender equality is your issue too’’. In the speech she is trying to help men as well regarding the gender roles, as it doesn’t only effect women. ‘’I’ve seen young men suffering from mental illness unable to ask for help for fear it would make them look less macho”. What she means by that is that she doesn’t only blame the men. We are all a part of this issue and that’s where she starts getting the male’s attention. During this whole speech she is trying to encourage both men and women to blow the whistle and get this issue over with. That means that this speech is made for persuasive and inspiring purposes.
