The speech was called the “HeForShe” speech. It is sponsoring the “HeForShe” campaign. Emma Watson, the woman who gave this speech is an English actress in her early twenties and newly appointed “Goodwill ambassador for women at the UN”. This speech is about rallying men and women to affect change in the world when it comes to gender equality. Emma talks about the word “Feminism” and what it means to her and what it should mean to everyone else. Some of her main claims were that men need to be just as involved in the path to gender equality as women are. She addressed the meaning of feminism and the social stigma attached to it and she wanted to change people’s perception of the word.

The speech is a deliberative speech where the purpose of the speech is to change the perspective of the word feminism and end gender injustice. In deliberative rhetoric, an argument is made using examples from the past to predict future outcomes in order to illustrate that a given policy or action will either be harmful or beneficial in the future. In this case, Emma’s focus was to convince the audience to take action now or either equality will first begin in the year 2086.
