The first line or headline in the book says “one hundred and thirty-six days before”, so its counting down until something happens. It starts with a boy, he’s called Miles, who is going off to college. His parents throw a party for him, they invite everyone from his class, but only 2 shows up, but they leave again quickly, because they got other things to do. His parents think he’s going to be sad, but he knew it would go like that. When he gets to college, he finds his room and his parents help him unpack all his stuff and put it into his dorm room. His roommate, calls himself the Colonel, the Colonel decides to call Miles, Pudge. The Colonel asks Pudge what he’s good at, and the pudge tells him he’s good at remembering peoples last words. They go into Alaska’s room, and she tells them about a guy who boob honked her, on her summer vacation. Alaska then say she has to tell Takumi, about the boob honk. Alaska and Takumi is both great friends of the Colonel. Pudge thinks Alaska Is one of the most beautiful girls he has ever seen. Pudge notices that Alaska has a lot of books in her room, and then later on asks the Colonel why she has so many, he tells pudge that it’s because she likes to buy loads of books, so she always have something to read, and that she haven’t read many of the books. The Colonel says that pudge has to pay half of the price for the cigarettes, they bought it from Alaska, because she’s the one who has those kind of things. They call the dean, the eagle, because he sees and hears everything. There is one place, near a little lake that they call the smoking hole. One night someone comes into the Colonel and Pudge’s room and take pudge with them, they throw him in the lake with duct tape around his body. There is a group of people who are the rich ones, and they’re the ones that threw pudge in the lake. And then from the time they kept pranking each other. Almost all Alaska’s books got flooded. And then they plan a really big prank, where they tell the Eagle, that they were going home for the weekend. But they slept in a barn, near the school. They prank almost didn’t end up succeeding. Pudge got bid in his bum by a swan, but they succeed. And then a days later, the Colonel, Alaska and pudge are in Alaska’s room, drinking alcohol. Then Alaska gets a phone call from her boyfriend Jake, she then comes crying and panicking into her room again, the Colonel and pudge freaks a bit out, and ask her what’s going on, she says they have to help get off campus, she screwed up. The Colonel and pudge of course helps her, and she drives off in a drunken sad condition. The next morning there is a meeting, and pudge keeps telling the eagle they couldn’t start without Alaska, then the eagle begins to cry. The eagle tells them that Alaska had been in an accident, and she died when she hit the other car. Pudge leaves the room and then begins to convince himself that she’s pranking them, but then when he gets back in the room, everyone is crying, the Colonel is laying down with his head down to his knees. The next long time everyone is sad, and that the funeral everyone is sad even her dad. She was sure her dad hated her because she couldn’t call 911 when her mother died. A while later the Colonel, Takumi, Lara and Pudge decides to find out why she died, if it was suicide or just an accident. They asked Jake and he told them that Alaska was doodling when they were talking together. They looked at the wall, and they could see that there were flowers on the wall. And then in the ending of the book they find out it was the day her mom died and she was probably on her way to her mom’s grave to give the white roses, because they were her mom’s favourite. They drive past the place Alaska died, they had to pull over because they all were crying, because they spent so much time, trying to figure out why she had driven off. Then they made one last prank for Alaska, where they hired a stripper for a school speaking, the Eagle didn’t get mad he just told them not to do it again. Then one or two days before they leave for summer break, Pudge finds a letter from Takumi, where he tells them he left for Japan earlier than he had told them he would. And he told them he was the last to see Alaska before she drove off, and he had been so guilty, but didn’t want to tell them because they hadn’t talked with him so much. And the books end with Pudge writing his final religion paper, where they had to talk about a labyrinth, the test was kind of dedicated to Alaska, because she had been the one who asked the teacher about it.
