His original name was Michael Luther King jr, just like his father, but after his father had been to a Baptist conference in Berlin 1934, changed his name and his son's name to Martin Luther King instead Michael Luther the only different between their names was junior and senior.

In 1944, when Martin Luther king jr was about 15 years old he was admitted to Morehouse College, it was there where his father and his grandfather went. It was there that he first heard about Mahatma Ghandhi, the Indian freedoms fighter who fought for India's independence from Britain. from that day was mahatma Gandhi a role model for Martin Luther jr.
