The short story "Be Here Now" written by Miguel Syjuco's was published in 2012, in the anthology Elsewhere here. Miguel Syjuco was born in 1976, and has received the Man Asian Literary Prize in 2008.

The short story is about the story's main character, who has recently returned from a place where there has been war, maybe still is. We are told, that he has moved into a new house with Jenna, who he is engaged to. We are also told, that the main character has been a photographer in one of the Middle Eastern countries (Line: 50-57), but it is however never explained what he directly was dealing with, when being in the Middle Eastern countries, or where he has been exactly.

I would describe the main character as organized, but still mysterious. The reason why I say this, is that he talks a lot about his past. It’s almost like he still lives in the past, and maybe that’s also one of the reasons why, he doesn’t really live his current life to the fullest. An example to this, could be the relation he has to his fiancé. The reason why I think he is kind of mysterious, is because of the fact, that even though he talks a lot about his past, he doesn’t really talk that much about his time in the Middle East. Maybe he suffers from post-traumatic stress?
