How can you hate another human being just because of his skin colour, his religion, or just because he comes from a specific country? I don't know. Personally, I think that racism is one of the most disgusting things in the world. But what is racism? You can't just say that "racism is a white man that don't like the black people" because it's much more than that. For me racism is when you have an intense hatred for a specific culture or skin colour. But how does racism occur? I don't think anybody is born with an intense hate for another culture or skin colour. I think that it is the environment that you have been raised in that can give you an intense hatred for other cultures. It can also be that you have had a bad experience with a person from another race. I get annoyed every time we hear the word racist; we get a picture in our head of a white man that hates a black man. For example, there is just as much hate between different cultures in the Middle East. In Iran, it's a swear word to be called an Arab. Also in Palestine is a swear word to be called Israeli. A question I of fen ask myself is, how can we stop racism? It will be really hard to stop, and almost impossible. Rome was not built in a day, but perhaps in time we can put a stop to it. Small steps are better than none. One of the reasons why I think racism is so terrible is that my friends are international. I got friends from all over the world, and I know that all of them, white, black, yellow or brown are good people. One of the most discriminating things that ever has happened to my family was when my brother was in the US with his school, and he asked a black woman about where he could find a bathroom. She said, “I don’t talk to white people, I hope Isis will come after you”. That shocked my entire family. Racism is a big problem right now. Try to think about the black people in US that have been killed by the cops, just because of their skin complexion. Or all the Muslims that are being accused of being terrorist, just because of their religion. That’s awful. I think that all of us should think about how to stop racism. And we all know the solution is difficult, but I think we could help reduce the problem by slowly try to think more about what we say, and who we say it too. I talked to my mother about racism a couple of days ago; she said, “racism is the fear of difference “I think she was right. But no matter what we still have a long way to go. I’m raised as a child after 9/11, all the news I have heard told about Isis, Israel and Palestine. I wish there wasn’t any religion. But I never would dare telling my grandmother - she is a priest in a Christin church. So for me this is difficult too. What I hope to live by is “everybody is allowed to be critical, but never judge any one in advance”.
