Is technology ruining the English language? Anne Trubek illuminates the most essential points in English language nowadays. First of all – the auto correction on the smartphone isn’t doing us any favours. When we try to spell a word and there’s a little misspell, the auto correction writes a whole other word automatically and then the sentence makes no sense. The more we get the technology to spell for us, the rustier we get at spelling for ourselves – and the rustier we get at spelling, the harder it gets for other people to actually understand what we are trying to say. This can be a very considerable matter, given that people may think of you as frivolous and you will not be respected properly. If we go back to the time when computers, smartphones and even dictionaries didn’t exist, all the words were spelled differently each time. No one to check for “proper” spelling and nothing to compare it with. Today for example if you don’t spell correctly in a paper for school, you do not want to see the reaction of the person who’s reading it.
