Amish: Livsstil, kultur og fremtid

I am going to talk about the Amish. I choose this topic because I think it is an interesting way of life.

Everyday life for Amish people is a life without modern technology. They have no electricity and they live without modern technology like computers and cars. The Amish do not have a phone in their house, but they may have a telephone nearby. In their house they can have a fridge, but the fridge uses a generator.

For transportation the Amish uses horses and carriages. They have tractors, but the tractors have no rubber tires. The tractor can be driven by steam or by horse. The Amish have bikes that looks like large scooters.

The Amish do not have jobs like we do. The typical Amish man is a farmer, the women stay at home and they do the cooking and laundry. The children will help the mother or the father.

The Amish clothing is made by the girls in the family. The Amish are often being referred to as “Plain People” because they dress; very plainly, very simple. There are never patterns on any of their clothing. The men wear a suit, and the women wear dresses. All clothes are in plain colors like black, blue, brown, purple or green. They men wear a hat and the women wear an apron.
