Everywhere in the world people face different obstacles, and people choose different ways to overcome these. Many factors change the way your life turns out. Whether it is the colour of your skin, what part of a city you go to, or what you do for a living. Even how tough these problems may be, if you are willing enough your mind will find a way.
“Dukwane’s Deliverance” by Neil Ramsorrun is a short story about a young man who has met many obstacles with the colour of his skin and the inheritance of his family. But he shows that nothing will get in his way, to achieving his goals.
The short story takes place in the city Camden, a district of the northwestern London.
Dukwane seems to live in a lower middleclass family, since he talks about his father like he wants to achieve more with his life than he did. It seems like a big deal for a boy like Dukwane to get into a good college like King’s College.
“As he looked at his father sat there, his bottom shirt button open and exposing his belly overhanging his trousers, he felt a sense of sadness, but also a determination to be more. “ (page 8 lines 25-28)
