There is nothing easy about being different from everyone else. Especially when you have no control over the thing that makes you different. This is what the main character in the story ‘’Dukwane’s deliverance’’ written by Neil Ramsorrun, 2010, is going through. The main character is a young black male, with high ambitions and the dream of becoming an important politician, like Barack Obama. Although Dukwane is a bright young man, this does not change the fact that he lives in London, where the people there have quite a racist way of thinking. Dukwane must overcome the challenges that comes with having a dark skin colour while having an ambitious dream.

We’re introduced to our main character Dukwane. Throughout the story, Dukwane is shown as ambitious hardworking. We can see this by how happy he is when he realises that he got into his dream university. ‘’Screw that I got in!’’, (L. 16, P. 1). This shows that Dukwane really cares about his school and future. But even though that he just realised that his dream about becoming and important politician might become true, he still went right to work. Which means that Dukwane always behaves responsible and adult-like. Dukwane starts at Cambridge King’s college 2 months after the story takes place, which means that he probably is between the age of 17 – 19. Since Cambridge is quite a good college and only the above average kids get into it, we can most certainly say that Dukwane doesn’t just daydream about his goals, but also works hard to achieve them. The fact that Dukwane got into Cambridge means that he manages to go to school, work longs shifts while having enough time to attend to his schoolwork and attend to his classes properly.
