If you go to a busy McDonald's - have a look around - most people are eating a burger and fries. After all - it's a fast food burger restaurant isn't it? The menu however, presents a different story - adorned with salads, wraps, and many other "healthy" options (depending on what part of the world you are in).
So what is going on - is fast food changing or not? Are we all going to McDonald's for a salad or is it all a veneer?
The Pizza Marketing Quarterly has published an interesting press release on the state of "healthy" fast food. For starters - the word healthy is no longer used by McDonald's because "our consumer research shows people don’t understand it and it’s actually a turn off when it comes to food items.” (McDonald's).
“The fact is, if Americans wanted tofu, McDonald’s could provide the best tasting, most convenient, most affordable freshest tofu there is,” said Cathy Kapica, director of global nutrition for the restaurant chain. “The problem is, Americans don’t want tofu.”
Taco Bell's healthy options were an "absolute disaster".Efforts by KFC and Pizza Hut have also come to nothing.
