I Jacob A. Riss was walking down the lower east side of Manhattan. And what I saw shocked me for life. It was a big American slum. Some of the worst conditions to raise a child in.
Everywhere I went were homeless, cold kids sleeping in a dark alley or someplace where they would not get hit by the rain. I kept on thinking about where their parents went or what they were thinking about since they let their kids sleeping in sketchy places like I saw. You could smell and see the bad conditions the people were living in. they kept on begging me for spare food or money.
In the picture you can 3 friends or brothers sleeping together on the stairs right outside of an apartment. You can see how they were trying to get close to each other to keep them warm for the night. Their clothes are all ripped up and dirty and they didn’t smell that good either. The barrel they are laying on is full of all their belongings and money they are protecting it.
Their faces look very worried. Did these kids ever get the chance to go to school, and get an education like we expect to do?
