Hello my name is Elli and I’m coming from Germany. I want to explain to you, how I experienced the 9/11 in Manhattan, New York.
I visited Manhattan with my two Kids and my husband. We were already three days in the city and we had experienced very beautiful things.
All started with a beautiful morning this day where we stand up very early. We drove with the underground from midtown to lower Manhattan. We eat in a Caffe in lower Manhattan because our Sightseeing tour for the day started there. The Caffe where we eat was called “The Two Geese Bakery” and it was located very close to the twin towers. Everything was so nice and we had very good food. And then suddenly it happened. The first Airplane flew into the north Tower at 8:46. We all heard a loud noise and got a big shock.
We went outside to see what happened. All we could see was thick black smoke coming out of the top of the north tower. We all didn't know what exactly happened and people started to panic. The smoke became thicker and thicker, and the fire got stronger. Sirens started to wail. Through all the people around us, we could find out that a plane had destroyed the tower. Time passed quickly and I thought about all the people who were in danger right now. And then the disaster continued, and another plane flew into the middle of the south tower. There was a big explosion, lots of fire and smoke. It was absolutely horrible, and I was really scared about my children. People around us were screaming and crying. It was clear now, that this was a terror attack and not something like a mistake. About an hour later the conditions of the towers got deteriorate. The south tower totally collapsed at 9:59. People screamed and start to run away. Tons of smoke enter the city and started to destroy things. Me and my husband took our kids and feuded as far as we could. There was a little explosion at 10:28 and the north tower also collapse. I was happy, that we could feuded directly after the first collapse, so our conditions were not that bad. Many people cried, screamed or called their family. We could find out that the conditions of the people near and in the towers was very bad. After a little bit of time they needed to evacuate lower Manhattan.
