Panopticon The Panopticon is a round building from the late 18th century, designed by Jeremy Bentham (English philosopher and social theorist). He designed it to be appropriate for hospitals, schools asylums etc. First off he wanted it to be a factory, but he put most effort in to making it a prison. Panopticon stands for all observed, because it is designed for all the prisoners to be watched at all time from the centre, without them knowing when they are being watched. It is designed so that the prison only need one watchman, even though one single watchman cant watch
