Filmanalyse: 'To the Bone'

‘To the Bone’ is an American movie, directed by Marti Noxon. It was released in 2017 on Netflix.

Ellen is a 20-year old anorexic girl, who has come to a point where she is mainly just skin and bones. Neither her divorced mom or dad wants to deal with her, so her stepmother is trying to take care of her. She sends Ellen to the specialist Dr. William Beckham, who puts her in his patient program. While she is in the program, she lives in a house with five other girls and one boy, Luke. Each person in the house is struggling their own eating disorder, trying to fight their way back to a normal life. You follow Ellen’s journey in the house with ups and down, until the last moment where her body is almost giving up – she needs to decide for the very last time if she wants to live or die.

Ellen is very stubborn and doesn’t want to admit to anyone or herself that she needs help. She is also very pessimistic about everything. Dr. William Beckham convinces her to change her sweet name ‘Ellen’ to ‘Eli’, which suits her personality way better. She deep down wants to change her life, but it is really hard for her to eat.
