Composition
It starts with a short introduction text about the story of “The Stolen Generation”, after the introduction it starts in media res with Nullah, our narrator, who is on a walkabout with his grandfather King George. Excluded the flashback in the start of the movie the events of the movie are presented chronologically. After the flashback you get introduced to Mrs. Ashley and follow her trip to Australia, then the viewer is introduced to the other main characters and the issues at Faraway Downs. Then you follow their journey to Darwin and their stay in Darwin while Nullah is staying at the Christian camp. Then Darwin is bombed by the Japanese and how they survive it and what they do afterward. The most obvious development Through the movie is Mrs. Ashley’s perception of Australia. At the beginning of the movie she cannot stand the country but in the middle of the movie she decides that she will not sell the Ranch, and in the end, she decides to live in Australia. The movie is predictable in some part; it is predictable that Mr. Fletcher in the end “loses” to Mrs. Ashley and her team, but a thing that was not predictable was that Mrs. Ashley accountant would be killed by the cattle when Mr. Fletcher is trying to kill all Mrs. Ashley’s cattle. Mrs. Ashley’s decision to stay in Australia with Mr. Drover and Nullah is expected because, although the movie is based on true facts and stories it is still a Hollywood movie, and they often end “Happily ever after.”. In the end, the viewer is relief that Mr. Fletcher dies and fulfilled with Mrs. Ashley staying in Australia living with Mr. Drover and Nullah.
