In the excerpt of the first book of the Narnia Chronicles, written by C.S. Lewis in 1950. The book is about 4 children being sent to the countryside because of the airraids in London during the second World War. They live temporarily in a house of an old Professor. The youngest daughter, Lucy, finds a wardrobe which she climbs into. In the wardrobe there is a whole other world with fantastic beasts and magnificent creatures. But the world is being ruled by an evil witch. And then the tale starts with the fight between good and evil. In the excerpt you are mostly told about the start and how Lucy is going to Narnia and how she adapts.
As already told the excerpt starts in the normal word as we know it. Everything is normal considering it’s in the 1940’s. But as we slowly move into the other world everything changes. The nature is holy and alive. Animals can talk, and there’s creatures that doesn’t exist in the normal world. For example, when Lucy meets the faun. As it says in the excerpt: From the waist upwards, he was like a man, but his legs were shaped like a goat’s. And instead of feet he had goat hoofs. In the text, the details are very straightforward. You are all the time being told about the environments and details. The action in the text is very symbolic. It’s a classic fight between the good and evil just like in a normal fairy tale.
