'Flowers for Algernon', resumé

The story Flowers for Algernon is a text written by Daniel Keyes. Daniel keys was born in Brooklyn in 1927, in 1966 the text was turned in to a novel. The text is about the 37 year old Charlie Gordon, who would like to be part of an experiment as a subject. The experiment should help Charlie’s intelligence increase. Charlie is not the smartest and has an IQ of 68. When Charlie is admitted to the experiment, dr. Strauss and Dr. Nemur, the two doctors behind the experiment, request that he writes all his thoughts down in reports. Throughout the reports the doctors can see a development in Charlie’s spelling and grammar and so on. In the experiment, Charlie is tested through a Raw shock test and he has to win over a mouse, named Algernon, by getting through a maze quicker than Algernon. Aside from the experiment, Charlie also works at a factory and goes to evening classes. In the end Charlie quits his job at the factory, because his coworkers have always made fun of him because of his low intelligence. Charlie also stops going to evening school, because he becomes to smart and he involves feelings for Miss Kinnian. In the end Charlie is no longer smart, he is back to where he started.
