The subtopic is: The consequences of the school shootings
Why did I choose this topic?
I chose this topic, because it’s something we hear about all the time. It is everywhere (kort tænkepause) in the news, on social medias, class rooms and so on. Since 2010, there have been 138 school shootings in the US. That’s a shocking number, when you compare it to the 1950’s. From 1950 to 1959 there were only 17 school shootings. The number of school shootings just has been increasing tremendously during the past couple of years. I want to know, if there is any sort of solution for this problem.
The Columbine High School shooting
Melissa Miller is one of the survivors of the Columbine High School shooting. Here is her terrifying story.
“I understand what it’ like to be picked on. But I can’t understand why anyone would turn to guns. Guns are not the answer. I learned that on April 20, 1999. That was definitely the worst day of my life”, she said.
Melissa was in the parking lot, when she heard the first explosion. She saw the two shooters and figured out, that it was two guys, she always had feared. First, she thought it was some kind of a senior prank. But when her friend, Anne Marie, got shot in the stomach and she didn’t get back up, Melissa realized, that it wasn’t a prank. The two shooters, Eric and Dylan, kept shooting. There were blood everywhere and screaming students running in all directions. When the shooters went inside, Melissa ran away. She saw a random house and ran inside. There was a phone, so she picked it up and dialled 911. Ambulances and police came, and slowly everything got under control again.
