First Impressions

It was very difficult. There was a lot that suddenly had changed. It was my time to get some experience. I was really excited, I had been looking forwards to live the life as an American for a long time, and then my dream became true. My first week at the high school, was better than I had ever imagined. On my first day at school, there was a lot of the students, who thought I was interesting, because, I came from a whole other country. There was not a single time at school I felt left out or alone, I got a lot of friends very quickly. There was this boy, Nico, (who was one of the many that was interested, because they thought it was exciting, with a new student, who doesn’t speak their language), I really liked him. He wasn’t from America either. Actually, he comes from my neighbor-country Germany, and moved to Arizona with his mother a few years back. We hung out after school, at the library, and talked about how our lives had developed. I had such a great time with him, it also seemed like we had more in common than the others I talked to in school, and Nico and I are both from another country. I really liked my host family. They didn’t ask much of me, usually after dinner, we sat down as a “family” and played games with my host siblings. My job at the house, was to take care of the dishes, nothing else. The next day, I was at school, and I tried to find Nico, but without luck. I couldn’t stop thinking about him, I don’t know why, I had only just met him, and I didn’t even know him that well. Or well at all. I began to feel a little lonely. I missed home, my language and my friends. Maybe I just felt a little homesick. What I had to do, was just to go out there and have some fun. Talk to people, make friends. I spent my day with Lynn and Paula. They were really nice, I liked them. Lynn and Paula were two girls I met in the cafeteria, while I was sitting alone, and they came and sat with me. Lynn and Paula were sisters, with one year between them. We had such a great time; those girls are so funny! Absolutely my first week’s peak. I told them about Nico, and how I constantly was thinking about him. I don’t know why, there was just something about him. Apparently, he has got a girlfriend, and the reason why I couldn’t find him was because they had broken up the very same day, I was at the library with him. That was why he didn’t show up in school today. I was really great to have someone to talk about my feelings to, because it was frustrating, to go for so long without sharing was happened in my mind. They seemed to understand. And we became friends. Good friends. We hung out the three of us all the time from that day. I really felt bad for Nico, but maybe now there was a chance to get to know him a little bit more.
