The story is about a young boy named Alex. He is driving home with his younger sister Rosie, his father and his father’s new girlfriend. Alex´s parents just got a divorce. He starts feeling sick and cannot hold his vomit back any longer. His father stops the car. Accidently he vomits on his father’s new girlfriend Paula. He reflects on the day that they have spent on Robin Hood´s Bay. On how Paula bought him an ice-cream, and that it is the same color of his vomit. He thinks about his friend Ben´s story about a bus that flew in mid-air and is now able to relate to that feeling of flying in mid-air being stuck between two comfort zones. The story ends back in the car. (127 words)
A lot of families experience changes in the form of for example divorces. Divorces affects the children a lot and it puts them in uncomfortable situations and forces them to make choices they do not want to make. This problem is portrayed by the author of the short story “Mid-air” Jennifer Alott. Where the main character Alex goes through this problem, when his parents gets a divorce. Even though Alex may feel that his life has stopped, he has to keep on living and try to cope with it.
