The short story mid-air is seen through the main person Alex who’s going on a road trip to Robin hoods bay with his little sister Rosie, his father and Paula who is his father’s girlfriend. Throughout the story Alex is switching between time and place and keeps reflecting on a lot of things he has on his mind. One of the main things in the story is Alex reflecting about his mother and his father’s relationship with his girlfriend. Reading the story its clear to see Alex’s confusion on the situation. This is obviously because of his age and lack of life experience. Alex’s little sister Rosie is also still a child. Seeing her behavior throughout the short story it is clear to see. Besides this it also written that she is 3 years old.

Alex is the main person of the short story. His a young boy around the age 8 years old who has just spent a day with his sister Rossi, his father and his father’s girlfriend Paula.
The narrator does not reveal much about Alex’s outer characterization so we do not know how he looks. We only know that he and his little sister lives with their mother after their parents have separated (line 44-45) and that Alex goes to school (line. 29-30).
