It was the 11th February 1990, South Africa. The day where our greatest leader would become free. Nelson Mandela had been locked up for 27 years, and was now going free, it was a strange feeling, that I didn’t know what was going to happen next.
I was 13 years old at the time, where Mandela was set free, but it still impacted my whole life, like I never imagined. I meet both the president and Mandela, since my mom was the president’s secretary. I was sick and my mom decided I shouldn’t stay home, so she brought me to work, where I meet the president. He was the sweetest person I ever met, but I knew he wanted to set Mandela free, and I didn’t like that thought, not after what I had heard about Mandela.
But that impression changed, cause the first time I met Nelson Mandela; I was impressed of him. He had been in prison for 27 years, but he didn’t have hatred to the white people, like my mom told me. At that point I knew he was special, and I wanted to be just like him. I wanted to be full of equality to all people, no matter skin color, age, gender or religion, just like he was.
