Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born on 18 July 1918 in South Africa. Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid activist who served as the first president of South Africa from 1994-1999. He was the country’s first black head state and first elected in a fully representative democratic election.
The treason Trial
Mandela was arrested in a countrywide police rush on the 5th of December 1958, which led to the treason trial. The treason trial in Johannesburg where there were approximately 156 people, including Nelson Mandela, arrested in a raid and accused of treason in South Africa in 1961. On 21st March 1960 police killed 69 unarmed citizens in a protest in Sharpeville against the passed laws. This led to the country’s first state of emergency and the banning of the African National Congress (ANC) and, the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) on 8th of April. Mandela and, his colleagues in the treason Trial were among thousands detained during the emergency.
How did Nelson Mandela get freed from prison?
Over time Mandela became a famous prisoner and there were big protests where people tried to fight for, his freedom, countries around the world had put pressure on South Africa to end apartheid. Things got better because the president of South Africa FW De Klerk decided to meet with Nelson Mandela in 1990 after the meeting he set him free.
