#MeToo, a movement started in 2017 as a way for women to openly talk and discuss the times they got sexually assaulted, both verbally and physically. It began in 2017, it was the then, 45-year-old, Alyssa Milano who started it all with a simple request on the social media Twitter “If you’ve been sexually harassed or assaulted write ‘me too’ as a reply to this tweet.” It wasn’t long till the hashtag was on every social media from Facebook to Twitter and even on Instagram. Afterward, #MeToo has evolved from sexual comments and a smack in the ass to almost everything that is just a bit sexist. But have the world become more sexist over the last couple of years or are the women just finally speaking up?

Women have always been afraid of speaking up to men, both in general but even more so, if the man is superior to the woman. This is especially true in any type of work-related situations where some industries are far worse than others. If you, for example, take a look at the entertainment industry, a young and upcoming female actor might think it is normal or necessary to do whatever the director or her agent tells her to do and if she doesn’t do it could reduce her chances of getting more jobs afterward and then tell her to keep quiet about it. “#MeToo movement shines a light on sexual harassment” (00.51-01.10) Just like the case of Harvey Weinstein, where he took advantage of upcoming actresses. A poll by the Washington post put forth by ABC reveals that an estimated 14 million people have experienced sexual abuse in work-related incidents and that 33 million American women have been sexually harassed. “#MeToo movement shines a light on sexual harassment” (00.20-00.30)
