It was a cold night. Mom gave me her scarf as we went up the stairs. I had begged her to take me up to the deck and watch the view of the waves and the night sky full of stars. But right as we went out of the door onto the deck, an alarm went on. First, we didn’t know what was going on, but as we looked around, we could literally see the iceberg that the ship had hit. My mom immediately took me back to our room. She panicked, but she knew that we had to get up to the lifeboats. I was a little girl, so my mom was sure that I had a good chance of getting in one of the first boats launched. I remember being so scared that I never would see my mother again, mostly because everyone around me was crying and hugging each other goodbye.
A man suddenly started carrying me and just setting me in a boat, thankfully my mom was placed right beside me. When they launched the boat, it was so close to falling over that I could almost feel the cold water in my lungs. One of the men who helped us get in the lifeboat were also placed in it. He helped us sail away from Titanic, so we didn’t end up getting caught in the stream. His name was Harry and he was actually very comforting even though he must have been in an awful lot of stress.
